The UK Government has announced important updates to its immigration rules for the nationals of Botswana and Palestine. These changes introduce new visit visa requirements and modify eligibility for electronic travel authorisation.

Visit Visa Requirement for Nationals of Botswana
From 15:00 BST on 14 October 2025, nationals of Botswana will be required to apply for a visit visa prior to travelling to the UK. As part of this change, Botswana will also be removed from the list of countries eligible for the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA).
This means that all visitors from Botswana must secure a visa in advance, ensuring compliance with UK immigration regulations.
Recognition of Palestine and Visa Changes
Following the UK’s formal recognition of the state of Palestine in September 2025, nationals of Palestine will also be added to the Visitor: Visa National List under the Immigration Rules Appendix.
As a result, Palestinian nationals will now need to obtain a visit visa before entering the UK, reinforcing the UK’s commitment to maintaining proper visa procedures for recognised states.
What This Means for Travellers
These changes highlight the UK’s ongoing efforts to manage immigration effectively while maintaining clear entry requirements. Nationals of Botswana and Palestine should plan ahead and ensure they have the necessary visit visas before travelling to the UK.
